When to attend A&E

Patients are advised that they should only attend the Accident and Emergency Department at the hospital if they require treatment for an EMERGENCY or SERIOUS ILLNESS OR INJURY, for example:

• Suspected heart attack
• Heavy blood loss
• Suspected broken bones
• Deep wounds
• Severe breathing difficulties
• Head injuries
• Chest pain or patient is unconscious

The practice has surgeries in the morning with book-on-the-day appointments and urgent treatments are also available in the afternoon. There is also a doctor who is on call for advice regarding minor injuries such as minor burns, sprains, bites, cuts, abrasions or bruising.

If you have any doubt whether you should attend the Accident and Emergency Department please contact the surgery for advice.
