NHS NUMBERS DO YOU KNOW YOUR NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE NUMBER? Every patient should be aware of their NHS Number as in the future this number will be used as a national identifying number, eventually taking the place of hospital numbers, etc. Using the NHS Number as the national identifier for patients will significantly improve safety by ensuring patients are identified correctly. Eventually you may be issued with a card showing your NHS Number but until then you are advised to make a note of your number and keep it safely. You can find your NHS Number on your medical card and in the future we will be adding your number to any correspondence we send you. Please DO NOT ring the surgery to ask for your number as we will be unable to deal with the volume of calls. However, next time you attend for an appointment, please ask the receptionist who will be happy to give you your number.
